Create, Share and Customize Electricity Offers in BillSave

Create a private electricity offer, submit it to Community Offers for review, or save and adapt a community offer. Then calculate bills using your own energy data.

Your electricity plan, your own model

If your electricity plan is missing from BillSave’s catalog, you can build it in My Offers. You can also start with a Community Offer and change its prices or rules to match your contract. This is useful even if your country does not yet have an official BillSave catalog.

Creating an offer defines how electricity is charged. Run Bill then applies those rules to your interval energy data. Compare Offers uses the same data to compare compatible offers.

Choose your starting point

Build for yourself

Enter your own prices and rules. Your offer stays private unless you submit a saved version for public review.

Create a private offer

Share with the community

Submit a saved version. An administrator must approve it before other users can find it in Community Offers.

Submit an offer

Adapt an existing offer

Save a community offer to your account, edit your copy and use it for your own calculations.

Customize a community offer

1. Create an offer for your own use

STEP 1

Open My Offers and sign in

Open My Offers using the link below and sign in to your BillSave account. Choose New offer if you are already editing another offer. You can use an email account; an IAMMETER Cloud connection is only needed if you want to load Cloud energy data.

STEP 2

Choose the country, currency and timezone

Select Country or region. BillSave supplies currency defaults for that country. Confirm the currency and choose the timezone used by your energy data, especially if the country has several timezones.

The country selection does not add the taxes, fees or contract conditions for you. Enter those from your own plan. A timezone is also part of a time-of-use rule: 22:00 must mean 22:00 where the energy was used.

STEP 3

Choose a pricing model and enter the rates

Under How is electricity charged?, select the model that matches your contract. Enter prices in the selected currency per kWh: for example, enter 0.20 for 20 pence per kWh when using GBP.

  • Flat rate: one import price at every time of day.
  • Time-of-use: different prices during specified time windows.
  • Tiered rates: prices change after usage thresholds; choose the applicable reset period.
  • Time-of-use + tiers: usage tiers within charging periods.
  • Weekday schedules: different rules for selected weekdays and weekends.

STEP 4

Add only the other rules your contract uses

Open Any other charges? for fixed charges, solar export credits, tax or separately billed controlled load. The editor also supports seasonal rules, free-use allowances and more detailed export pricing when your plan needs them.

For monthly fixed charges, use complete calendar months when calculating. For controlled load, provide the separate CL energy channel and confirm that Grid import excludes it. Ordinary load monitoring is not automatically a separately billed CL supply.

  • Fixed charge: enter daily and monthly charges separately.
  • Solar export credits: configure an export rate if you want exported energy credited.
  • Tax: choose whether your entered prices already include tax, avoiding a second tax charge.
  • Offer details: a name, supplier and source description are optional, but a clear name makes comparisons easier.

STEP 5

Save a version you can calculate with

Check the rule summary and resolve any validation messages, then click Save offer version. This saves a calculation-ready snapshot to your account. Save draft is for unfinished work and does not create a new calculation-ready version.

After saving, click Use in Run Bill. Upload your CSV Dataset or load an authorized IAMMETER Cloud Site, check the billing period and any required inputs, then calculate. You can also select your saved offer from My Offers. Official catalog offers remain in Find Plans.

Try a simple fictional offer first

For a practice offer, choose United Kingdom, GBP and Europe/London. Select Flat rate, enter 0.20 per kWh, add a daily fixed charge of 1.00 and leave export credits blank. Select tax-inclusive prices and name it “Practice flat offer”. These are fictional prices, not a supplier quote.

With a complete 30-day Dataset containing 300 kWh of import, the expected result is 300 × £0.20 + 30 × £1.00 = £90.00. Use a compatible UK Dataset and the same period when checking your result. Change the example to your real contract before using it for a decision.

2. Submit your offer to Community Offers

STEP 1

Check the saved rules and public description

First save the version you want to share. Give it a useful name and, where possible, add the supplier, official plan URL and any conditions or dates in Offer details. If it is fictional or simplified, say so clearly.

Only the offer rules and optional offer details are shared, not your account or energy data. Remove personal details from the description before submitting.

STEP 2

Submit the saved version

In the Offer saved panel, expand Share this version and click Submit for public review. A submission confirmation means it has reached the review queue; it does not mean the offer is already public.

STEP 3

Check the review status

Your public submission history shows its status and any review notes. After administrator approval, the version appears in Community Offers. If changes are requested, edit your offer, save a new version and submit that version.

Editing your private draft does not change a published community version. A public update needs a new submission and approval. You can withdraw a submitted or public version separately; deleting a private offer does not withdraw its public version.

3. Save a community offer and make it your own

STEP 1

Find a useful starting point

Open Community Offers. You can browse without signing in. Search for an offer and open View rules to check its country, currency, timezone, import prices, export credits and fixed charges.

A similar charging model can save typing, but its prices and eligibility conditions may not match your contract. The usage counts show how the offer has been saved and calculated; they do not guarantee a saving.

STEP 2

Save it to your account

Click Save to My Offers and edit and sign in if prompted. BillSave saves a private copy to your account and opens it in the editor. This is the “download” workflow: you do not need to download and re-upload an offer file.

STEP 3

Adjust the copy to your contract

Change the rates, time windows, usage thresholds, fixed charges and export credits as needed. Check the country, currency, timezone and tax settings too. Give your copy a recognizable name and click Save offer version.

Your edits affect your own copy, not the original community offer or anyone else’s copy. Later updates to the community offer do not automatically replace the rules you edited.

STEP 4

Calculate and compare using the same energy data

Click Use in Run Bill to calculate with your saved version. To compare alternatives, select compatible offers from My Offers or Find Plans and use Compare Offers with the same Dataset and billing period.

Compare offers in the same country and currency. BillSave does not convert different currencies for comparison. A custom offer can model a country without an official catalog, but that does not make its official offers available in Find Plans.

If you get stuck

The new prices are not used

  • Save offer version after editing; Save draft alone is not enough. Select the new saved version for your next calculation.

Energy data timezone does not match

  • Check the offer timezone and the timestamps in your Dataset. Use energy data from the intended location; do not change timezone labels merely to bypass a mismatch.

The offer is not visible in Community Offers

  • Check its public submission status. Private saved offers and pending submissions are not public; administrator approval is required.

The available templates cannot express your contract

  • In My Offers, click “Template doesn’t meet your needs? Tell us”. Describe the missing rule and include a reference URL if available.

Start with one offer and one Dataset

Build a simple model, check it against a known period, then add the rules your contract needs. Custom and community offers are user-defined models: review the assumptions and omitted conditions when interpreting an estimated bill.
